I saw today that the crazy scheme at RIM to have two CEOs has finally fallen. They admit they probably need to focus more on consumer type of projects. Who do they pick to replace these two out of touch co-CEOs ? A former leader of Siemens. Can you name one consumer product from Siemens ? Yah, neither can I.

First it’s not Internet people, it’s the American People. In 1998 the government of the United States gave Hollywood the DCMA act, making it illegal to circumvent ripping a DVD, sorry I mean circumventing DRM whether copyright is proven or not.

The internet for me is basically down today. All the SOPA/PIPA protest from the internet companies have curbed their internet presence.

The task of managing user access to an IP Power Switch can often be a challenge; especially when you’re dealing with multiple users who need individualized command access rights and outlet access rights. To complicate matters further, the job gets even more confusing when you need to allow some users to access IP Power Switch configuration functions, while limiting other users to only basic reboot and power switching functions and also setting up other user accounts that provide no command access rights and only allow the user to display IP Power Switch status screens.

When a server or router locks up or refuses to cooperate, often a simple power reboot provides the best way to restore communication with the unresponsive device.
It’s pretty easy to reboot a malfunctioning network device if the device is located in a nearby equipment rack, but if an unresponsive router or server is located miles away in a remote network equipment rack or off-site data center, even a simple power reboot can sometimes be a challenge … especially if you’re being hounded by anxious network users who don’t have time to wait for vital network services to be restored while your service team is en route to the site.

I had two similar occurrences this past week with online sports streaming.
I have been spoiled by the almost prefect way Major League baseball handles their online game streaming. For years, MLB has handled their online delivery of games in a way that I can live with.

When your primary means of communication with remote network equipment fails, it’s always good to have other options for contacting various devices in the remote network equipment rack. As long as you can communicate with the devices in the remote equipment rack, then you still have a chance of solving the communication problem without an expensive service call to the remote rack. Although a console switch provides the basis of an excellent out of band management solution, it can also be helpful if the console switch provides additional communication options that can be employed to communicate with other devices in the remote network equipment rack when your primary network is down or unavailable.

When a vital network device at a remote network equipment site malfunctions or refuses to communicate, an out of band management solution provides administrators with a handy way to diagnose and correct problems at the remote site without the expense and inconvenience of a time-consuming service call. As a general rule, the more distant, remote and out-of-the-way the network equipment cabinet is, the more important it is to have out of band access to console port command functions when problems arise at the remote site.

Its funny, I was just talking about my horrid experience at Best Buy to a friend today. It’s the first time in my life I dropped the F-Bomb in a store. I was renewing a Verizon Phone contract, I knew it was going to be bad going in but I had a $75 Best Buy gift card and was putting it against the price of a phone.
