WTI at Cisco Live 2010

WTI is pleased to announce our participation in “Cisco Live 2010” on June 28 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In keeping with the spirit of the event, we’ll be showcasing products that provide secure, remote management tools for Cisco users: our Console Server products, our High-Amp Power Reboot products and our Console Server + Power Reboot Hybrid products.

Cisco manufactures and sells some of the most reliable, well-designed network equipment available on the market today. But even top-of-the-line equipment can crash or hang when you need it the most; power spikes, configuration issues and just plain, old bad luck can cause even the most reliable network devices to freeze, bringing your network to a halt, interrupting communication and wasting valuable time and resources.

But how does a network manager deal with equipment problems at remote facilities? In the past, the only way to correct a crashed router or a hung server was often to physically travel to the installation site and either reboot the equipment manually, or access command functions locally via console port. This took care of the crashed router or frozen switch, but it was also extremely expensive to send critical personnel running off on service calls every time the network hiccupped.

WTI Console Servers, High Amp Power Reboot Switches and Console Server + Power Reboot Hybrid products are all designed to provide secure, intelligent solutions for remote network management issues, and to eliminate the need to send vital, highly-paid network techs off on service calls to remote equipment sites.

Serial Console Servers ad Out-of-Band Communication
Often, when your network goes down, there’s no way to contact your remote network devices via normal in-band channels. In cases like this, an out-of-band solution, such as a secure Console Server, usually provides the only means to communicate with troublesome remote devices without traveling to the remote site in person.

Out-of-band access allows you to create a secure connection with a remote device via modem, and then invoke commands to diagnose, reset or reconfigure the malfunctioning device. WTI RSM and TSM console servers are equipped with a formidable array of security features to ensure secure, authenticated communication, for both in-band and out-of-band connections. Security features such as SSHv2 encryption, embedded FIPS 140-2 cryptography, LDAP, Kerberos, TACACS and RADIUS user authentication, HTTPS/SSL Secure Web, IP address filtering, a multi-level subscriber directory and dial-back security all work together to ensure that critical command functions on remote devices are protected from unauthorized access.

High Amp Power Reboot Switches; the Perfect Fit for Cisco Power Control
Unlike most power reboot switches on the market, our new MPC-HD series reboot switches were specifically conceived to support high-amp devices such as Cisco switches. When we designed the MPC-HD, we went to great lengths to ensure that our power reboot switches included precisely the right types of power outlets, alarm features, power metering capabilities and current ratings needed to adequately support blade servers, data switches and other high-amp network devices.

Advanced power metering capabilities allows the MPC-HD to measure and report Kilowatt Hours, Kilowatts, Amps, Voltage and Temperature. When any of these factors exceed threshold values, the MPC can switch or reboot power and promptly send notification. In addition to its many alarm functions, the MPC-HD can also perform remote reboots and power shutdowns on individual outlets according to a user defined schedule, when a ping command fails, or on demand.

Energy Consumption data from your IT equipment can be individually accessed at each MPC-HD circuit and used for billing, heat calculation and load distribution. The MPC’s intelligent, feature rich design allows you to meter, report and control total current, power and energy consumption in your rack, cabinet or remote site.

Console Server + Power Reboot Hybrids; Two Devices in One 1U Box!
If you need remote console port access and power control, then you’ll definitely need a Console Server and a Power Reboot Switch. But what if your installation doesn’t have enough room for both devices? … And what if your site only includes a couple of network devices that need remote access and control?

There’s no need to shoe-horn two more devices into your rack or waste money on a solution that supports twice as many ports and outlets as you need. WTI’s RSM-8R4 Console Server + Power Reboot Hybrids provide the perfect 1U solution for smaller installations, with only a few devices to control or a shortage of rack space. The RSM-8R4 includes eight serial console ports for remote access to command functions, and four switched power outlets to provide remote reboot capability.

The RSM-8R4 also includes the same, vital security and authentication features as our full-sized Console Server and Remote Reboot products, as well as the same alarm capabilities and out-of-band access features … all in one, compact, 1U package to fit the needs of smaller data centers and remote network sites.
