Vaudeville Redux
I was listening to a podcast the other day, it had as guests, a comedian (a performer) and a technology guy.
The comedian made a a comment about the ridiculous music video by the Software industry to try to get you stop copying software.
The tech guy said, the expectation by people now days is that all the content is free, and the money is made in other ways. The Comedian says the day that happens, it is the day content dies.
It made me think how realistic the tech guy was and how out of touch the comedian was and why the divide is so large in the music and movie industry (including SAG members).
I can imagine someone’s comments in the 20’s and 30’s sounding the exact some way about movies or television.
“How can they give our blood and sweat away for free”, well its not REALLY free, but they make their money in different ways.
You are right, you don’t get money from tickets sales but you do get a commission from ad sales, touring and endorsements.
Ricky and Lucy would always hawk things in commercials during the I love Lucy Show.
This is going to take years to resolve.
Sigh
