Just to make a buck

If there is a poster child to the “don’t care about making profits, just start a company to be acquired” its Marc Andreessen.

This guy’s one hit wonder was his luck of falling into the whole Mosaic/Netscape browser project. After this venture, which of course every knows ended up failing in spectacular form when they prematurely openly challenged Microsoft and Microsoft turned around on a dime and crushed Netscape into Open source-dom, he has started a few more companies having them barely survive and then selling them off to a bigger company before the company went under.

Remember the days of starting a company, to actually make something in the long term? It seems now, all the new companies main business plan is to get big enough to get recognized and then sell themselves off.

The face of the new Entrepreneur and it isn’t pretty

sigh
