Airport Like No Other

So we were out in San Jose for a while. The experience was awesome. I had the opportunity to meet people from Cisco and Visa. The people I got to meet were one of a kind, I learned a lot from talking to them and understanding what they do and how they do it. Overall I couldn’t ask for a better sales trip.

Now on to something that’s sort of related, mainly about the airport in San Jose. So we head down to the airport and it’s always a good time to people watch. This airport has laptop desks, places to plug in and charge USB devices; it’s a straight business airport. All the ads on the wall weren’t for make up, cars, or for the airlines. There were for network switches, battery back ups, and data center stuff. Go figure right.

After people watching for a bit, you realized that this airport isn’t for your average person. Everyone there is either a sales person or an engineer. We had a fun time deciding who was an engineer and who was a sales person. It’s kind of obvious in the end though. Everyone there was either on a laptop or a blackberry, no exceptions. It was pretty much like being in one huge office.

There was a particular lady that was very loud I don’t think she realized she was in a public place when she was on her phone call. She kept yelling, being sarcastic, and every other word out of her mouth was either my or me, so it as all about her. I don’t know what she was talking about, but it seemed network or sales related. She seemed too stressed. She needed to kick it back. Everyone has problems, but you don’t need to let the whole terminal know.

What I think could have simplified her life was a laptop, its easier yelling at people with exclamation points and caps. And for her network problems, maybe an RSM-8R4. She could easily log on from her laptop, if she would have had it out, and reset some of her devices or logged into her servers and made sure they were all up to par. Its one device that gives you the best of both worlds. You get remote power and console management all in one. Who doesn’t like a 2 for 1 deal?
