Never bet against the House

Microsoft loves its developers and Apple treat their developers like a revenue source.

How about that for a statement ? I have been a Windows developer since version 1.03. We got a bootleg copy from AST computer and ran it on a V20 NEC processor in an old Epson computer. We could not afford the SDK at the time because it was thousands or dollars. Then someone at Microsoft came up with the great idea that they needed applications for the platform, lets give the SDK away cheaply.

The rest is history.

Microsoft got it early, if you have the applications, the people will come.

I got an email from Apple a couple of days ago saying I could get their WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) video sessions for $499 (USD) a piece or the entire conference for $999. Hmm, I looked at them, I would love them, but the price is a little steep for someone who doesnt make a lot of money off the Apple platform.

Then I got an email from Microsoft that says, come and get every session from our PDC (Professional Developers conference) for free on the web.

There is the old Microsoft I have grown to love (as a developer).

Apple here is a message, I know that it looks like you have the cool new iPhone, I love it. Please make this stuff for the developers cheaper and easier to access. They will pay you back by making your platform as wide spread as the Microsoft one is, even Vista.

sigh
